Why YOU will love this recipe
- Chocolate and almonds are a classic pairing with satisfying sweetness and crunchy texture.
- Almonds are a nutritious snack on their own, as they are a good source of healthy fats, protein, and fiber. Combined with dark chocolate, which contains antioxidants and may offer some health benefits, chocolate-covered almonds can be seen as a more balanced indulgence compared to more processed desserts.
- When you make homemade treats you have control over the quality and freshness of the ingredients. Choose organic almonds and chocolate.
- This recipe is naturally vegan, and gluten-free. Bonus!
Ingredients
Find the full ingredient list, with measurements, in the recipe card below.
- dry roasted almonds – Using roasted nuts really adds to the flavor.
- dark chocolate chips – For a vegan recipe be sure to check the label for any dairy products.
- coconut oil – This helps the chocolate set into a shell after melting.
Equipment
- small saucepan – For melting the chocolate.
- baking sheet – We use a quarter sheet pan that easily fits into the freezer.
- parchment paper – A must for no sticking and easy cleanup. We recommend unbleached parchment paper.
Instructions
Scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom for the FULL recipe details.
Step 1
Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set it aside.
Step 2
Next, add the chocolate chips and coconut oil to a small saucepan and set it over medium heat.
Stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.
No double boiler is needed!
Step 3
Then, add the roasted almonds to the pot and coat them with the melted chocolate.
Step 4
Next, use two forks and transfer the almonds one by one to the parchment-lined baking tray.
You can also just pour the mixture out and spread it around. This method requires breaking up the almonds from the excess chocolate after it is chilled and set. You can also just enjoy them as chocolate almond clusters! It will be similar to a bark recipe.
Step 5
Finally, pop the tray into the freezer for 30 minutes to set.
Expert tips
Use a microwave to melt the chocolate – just zap it, stirring every 30 seconds or so until it is smooth.
A sprinkle of flaky sea salt on them before the freezer tastes delicious!
Recipe variations
- Switch up the nuts and substitute pecans, macadamia nuts, cashews, walnuts, or hazelnuts.
- Experiment with different chocolate varieties like milk chocolate, bittersweet, or semi-sweet.
- Add a drop of peppermint extract or food-grade peppermint essential oil to the chocolate for a refreshing minty flavor.
- Give this recipe some spice and dust the almonds with spices like cinnamon, cayenne pepper, or chili powder before coating them in chocolate.
Serving suggestions
- The simplest way to enjoy these is to eat them straight out of the bowl.
- Sprinkle chocolate-covered almonds on top of yogurt, ice cream, or frozen yogurt for a sweet and crunchy topping.
- Pop them into a jar with a cute bow and give them as DIY gifts.
FAQS

They are certainly healthier when you make your own and control the quality of the ingredients. Almonds are a tasty way to get some beneficial fats like monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats into your diet.
Do chocolate-covered almonds have caffeine?
Dark chocolate does contain a small amount of caffeine, so this recipe will contain trace amounts of it.
Storage tips
- Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to a week. If they last that long!
